3. How did the Protestant Reformation lead to the increase of intellectual freedom that leads to
discoveries?

Answers

Answer:A Challenge to the Church in Rome

In art history, the 16th century sees the styles we call the High Renaissance followed by Mannerism, and—at the end of the century—the emergence of the Baroque style. Naturally, these styles are all shaped by historical forces, the most significant being the Protestant Reformation’s successful challenge to the spiritual and political power of the Church in Rome. For the history of art this has particular significance since the use (and abuse) of images was the topic of debate. In fact, many images were attacked and destroyed during this period, a phenomenon called iconoclasm.

The Protestant Reformation

Today there are many types of Protestant Churches. For example, Baptist is currently the largest denomination in the United States but there are many dozens more. How did this happen? Where did they all begin? To understand the Protestant Reform movement, we need to go back in history to the early 16th century when there was only one church in Western Europe - what we would now call the Roman Catholic Church - under the leadership of the Pope in Rome. Today, we call this "Roman Catholic" because there are so many other types of churches (ie Methodist, Baptist, Lutheran, Calvinist, Anglican - you get the idea).

The Church and the State

So, if we go back to the year 1500, the Church (what we now call the Roman Catholic Church) was very powerful (politically and spiritually) in Western Europe (and in fact ruled over significant territory in Italy called the Papal States). But there were other political forces at work too. There was the Holy Roman Empire (largely made up of German speaking regions ruled by princes, dukes and electors), the Italian city-states, England, as well as the increasingly unified nation states of France and Spain (among others). The power of the rulers of these areas had increased in the previous century and many were anxious to take the opportunity offered by the Reformation to weaken the power of the papacy (the office of the Pope) and increase their own power in relation to the Church in Rome and other rulers.

Keep in mind too, that for some time the Church had been seen as an institution plagued by internal power struggles (at one point in the late 1300s and 1400s church was ruled by three Popes simultaneously). Popes and Cardinals often lived more like kings than spiritual leaders. Popes claimed temporal (political) as well as spiritual power. They commanded armies, made political alliances and enemies, and, sometimes, even waged war. Simony (the selling of Church offices) and nepotism (favoritism based on family relationships) were rampant. Clearly, if the Pope was concentrating on these worldly issues, there wasn't as much time left for caring for the souls of the faithful. The corruption of the Church was well known, and several attempts had been made to reform the Church (notably by John Wyclif and Jan Hus), but none of these efforts successfully challenged Church practice until Martin Luther's actions in the early 1500s.

1. Life for Mongol people during the period when Genghis Khan was born was characterized by a nomadic and tribal lifestyle. They relied on herding livestock for sustenance, and their society was organized into clans. Mongols were skilled horsemen and skilled in warfare, engaging in conflicts and raids with neighboring tribes.

2. Temüjin, who later became known as Genghis Khan, was an influential Mongol leader. He united the various Mongol tribes and clans under his leadership, establishing a centralized authority. Temüjin's importance lies in his ability to consolidate power and lay the foundation for the Mongol Empire.

3. Temüjin demonstrated his skills as a warrior and strategist in multiple ways. Firstly, he employed innovative military tactics, such as using a highly mobile cavalry and incorporating archery into warfare. Secondly, he was adept at forming alliances and diplomatic maneuvers to strengthen his position and gain support from neighboring tribes.

4. Genghis Khan built the Mongol Empire through a combination of military conquests and diplomatic strategies. He waged numerous successful campaigns, expanding Mongol territories across Asia and Europe. Genghis Khan also implemented administrative and organizational reforms, establishing efficient systems for governance and communication within the empire.

5. Kublai Khan was the grandson of Genghis Khan and the fifth Great Khan of the Mongol Empire. He is notable for founding the Yuan Dynasty in China and becoming its first emperor.

6. Kublai Khan's rule differed from Genghis Khan's in several ways. Unlike his grandfather, Kublai Khan focused more on governing and administration rather than military expansion. He adopted Chinese cultural practices, established a capital in China, and fostered trade and cultural exchange between the Mongols and other civilizations.

Argumentative Paragraph:

Genghis Khan was more influential to the Mongol Empire than Kublai Khan. Firstly, Genghis Khan was the founder of the empire and laid the groundwork for its expansion through his military conquests and innovative tactics. He united the Mongol tribes, established a centralized authority, and implemented administrative reforms that shaped the empire's structure. Furthermore, Genghis Khan's leadership style and strategic vision were crucial in building the Mongol Empire. In contrast, while Kublai Khan was a significant figure, his rule focused more on governance and consolidation rather than extensive territorial expansion. Kublai Khan's adoption of Chinese culture and emphasis on administration shifted the empire's trajectory, but it was Genghis Khan's initial conquests and organizational strategies that formed the foundation of the Mongol Empire's power and influence.

What are the characteristics of a Christian according to him? (Pliny)

Answers

Answer: According to P L I N Y he states

Explanation:

Pliny the Younger, the Roman governor of Bithynia and Pontus (now in modern Turkey) wrote a letter to Emperor Trajan around AD 112 and asked for counsel on dealing with the early Christian community. The letter (Epistulae X.96) details an account of how Pliny conducted trials of suspected Christians who appeared before him as a result of anonymous accusations and asks for the Emperor's guidance on how they should be treated.[1][2]

Neither Pliny nor Trajan mentions the crime that Christians had committed, except for being a Christian; and other historical sources do not provide a simple answer to what that crime could be, but most likely due to the stubborn refusal of Christians to worship Roman gods; making them appear as objecting to Roman rule.[3][4]

Pliny states that he gives Christians multiple chances to affirm they are innocent and if they refuse three times, they are executed. Pliny states that his investigations have revealed nothing on the Christians' part but harmless practices and "depraved, excessive superstition." However, Pliny seems concerned about the rapid spread of this "superstition"; and views Christian gatherings as a potential starting point for sedition.[4]
