Answers

Answer 1

In analyzing Joseph Stalin's 1941 speech, it is crucial to evaluate the quality of the speaker's argument, his biases, use of evidence, and logical fallacies, as they impact the speech's overall point and purpose.

1. Quality of the argument: Stalin's argument revolves around the need for the Soviet Union to be resilient and determined in the face of German aggression.

He emphasizes the strength and unity of the Soviet people and calls for collective effort to overcome the challenges. The argument is emotionally appealing, but it lacks substantial logical reasoning.

2. Biases: Stalin's speech contains biases that favor the Soviet Union and paint Germany as the enemy. This is expected given the context of the speech, but it is important to acknowledge the biased perspective when evaluating the speech.

3. Use of evidence: Stalin uses anecdotal evidence and historical examples to illustrate the strength of the Soviet people and their ability to resist aggression.

However, the evidence is limited and mostly serves to provoke an emotional response from the audience, rather than providing a well-rounded argument.

Example: "The enemy is cruel and implacable. He is out to seize our lands, watered with our sweat, to seize our grain and oil secured by our labor... He is out to restore the rule of landlords, to restore Tsarism..." (Stalin, 1941)

4. Logical fallacies: Stalin's speech contains logical fallacies such as ad hominem attacks on Germany and appeals to tradition to rally the Soviet people.

Example: "Our forefathers had been defending our country against aggressors for centuries... They did not yield to the enemy and held out to the end. We shall do as they did!" (Stalin, 1941)

In conclusion, while Joseph Stalin's 1941 speech successfully appeals to the emotions of the Soviet people and urges them to unite against German aggression, it lacks logical reasoning and evidence to support its claims.

The biases and logical fallacies in the speech should be taken into consideration when evaluating its overall point and purpose.

Each heading names a different type of requirement for working at Wilson’s Market. C. Each heading names a different step in the process of getting a job at Wilson’s Market. D. Each heading names a different action that employees perform at Wilson’s Market.

Answers

Each heading names one of the core values of those who work at Wilson’s Market (option a).

The document describes headings that are used to categorize and organize information. To determine which option accurately describes the headings, we need to analyze the content of the headings.

Option A states that each heading names one of the core values of those who work at Wilson’s Market. To evaluate this option, we should check if the headings align with core values.

Option B suggests that each heading names a different type of requirement for working at Wilson’s Market. This option can be assessed by examining if the headings detail various job requirements.

Option C proposes that each heading names a different step in the process of getting a job at Wilson’s Market. To evaluate this option, we should verify if the headings outline sequential steps in the job application process.

Option D implies that each heading names a different action that employees perform at Wilson’s Market. This option can be assessed by examining if the headings describe specific job duties or tasks.

Analyzing the headings, if they consistently refer to core values such as integrity, teamwork, customer service, and similar aspects, then Option A is the correct description. However, if the headings primarily discuss job requirements, sequential steps in the application process, or specific employee actions, then Options B, C, or D would be more appropriate.

After carefully reviewing the document, it is determined that each heading does indeed name one of the core values of those who work at Wilson’s Market. Therefore, the correct description is A. Each heading names one of the core values of those who work at Wilson’s Market.

Do you agree with the conclusions made in Life isn’t fair. Deal with it

Answers

Answer:One argument in favor of the "life isn't fair" mentality is that it encourages resilience and self-reliance. By accepting that there are injustices in the world that we cannot control, we are forced to develop a sense of personal responsibility and adaptability that can be valuable in many areas of life. This mentality can also help us avoid feelings of victimhood or entitlement, which can be harmful to our mental health and overall well-being.

On the other hand, it is important to recognize that the "life isn't fair" mentality can also be harmful and counterproductive. If we simply accept that the world is unjust and move on without trying to change anything, we risk perpetuating the very injustices that we are trying to overcome. Moreover, this mentality can lead to a lack of empathy toward those who are struggling or disadvantaged, which can be damaging to our relationships and communities.

it is important to recognize the social and systemic factors that contribute to inequality and to work toward creating a more just and equitable world. In short, while we may not be able to control every aspect of our lives or the world around us, we do have the power to make a difference and to create more fairness and equity in the world.

Read the following essay and answer the questions below.

Standardized tests are a common and popular way to evaluate the academic achievements of students, teachers, and school districts. They are used in many areas, such as in the army, civil service, medicine, and so on, but primarily standardized tests are associated with academic performance. Many arguments in favor of the usage of these tests have been put forward, as well as a number against, since this method of monitoring and evaluating academic success has both benefits and drawbacks.

Standardized tests are most widely used in the field of education to assess the academic performance of students. Two commonly known types of standardized tests in the USA are the SAT and the ACT. The SAT evaluates skills in vocabulary and mathematics, while the ACT has more to do with a broader range of knowledge and includes additional subjects, such as science. Among the other most known tests are the PSAT, National Achievement Tests, and SAT II examinations.

One of the main purposes of testing is to set a standard: a performance baseline of progress for all parties involved in the educational process—students, teachers, and school districts, and to hold them accountable for achieving it. The idea is to detect areas where students usually fail, or fall behind and promote improvement, not punish them (Strong 24). Besides, tests help remove bias some teachers may exhibit towards students and make the evaluation process more objective. This is usually achieved by using special automatic machines that score exams. Also, due to the usage of these methods, the potential of human error is decreased, or even eliminated.

On the other hand, the exploitation of the system of standardized testing is linked to a number of issues. Thus, many feel that tests do not provide accurate evaluations of a student’s knowledge and learning capabilities, particularly due to the fact that in order to pass a test, a simple memorization is preferred to critical thinking and higher learning (Strong 254). Critics of standardized testing often claim it contributes to the rise of academic dishonesty, as the pursuit of knowledge actually becomes a pursuit of higher test scores. Besides, the emotional state of students may be destabilized due to test-taking. The environment, fostering constant competition and even rivalry may create excessive stress and test-anxiety. A person who gets a low test score may become discouraged from pursuing further academic success. Perhaps one of the most serious drawbacks of using standardized testing is connected to discrimination. Holding all schools and students to the same national standards may infringe on the rights of students with disabilities, lower socio-economic statuses, those who learn English as a second language, students of different nationalities, and so on.

One can see that standardized testing is a universal method of evaluating those skills to which tests are targeted, which reduces or even excludes bias, partiality, or the potential of human error. Standardized tests are meant to set a high standard and promote objectivity. However, this method is not perfect and involves a number of issues. The most critical among them are the preference accorded to memorization over critical and analytic thinking; the encouragement of academic dishonesty; infringing on students’ emotional state, and even some elements of discrimination. Evaluating both sides of the argument allows for improvements to be made, while still encouraging students to strive for the highest academic achievement.

what can i write for Garret morgan, where he’s from? how he died?his family? biography? don’t look it up

Answers

Answer:A pioneer inventor, Garrett A. Morgan (1877-1963) was responsible for the creation of such life-saving inventions as the gas mask and traffic lights. In a long and productive career that spanned over 40 years, Garrett A. Morgan invented a variety of products and services, most of which are now called “safety features.” His creations, for many of which he held patents, brought him much fame and prosperity in his lifetime, and he was nationally honored by many organizations, including the Emancipation Centennial in 1963.

Explanation:

Early Years

Garrett Augustus Morgan was born in Paris, Kentucky, on March 4, 1877. He was the seventh of eleven children born to Sydney Morgan, a former slave who was freed in 1863, and Elizabeth (Reed) Morgan. Leaving home at age 14 with only an elementary school education, Morgan eventually settled in Cleveland. He taught himself to repair sewing machines, working with a number of companies before opening his own sewing machine business specializing in 1907. The venture was successful, enabling Morgan to set up house in Cleveland, and in 1908, he married Mary Anne Hassek. Together they had three sons.

A Life of Invention

Eventually, Morgan opened his own tailoring shop, and it was here that he developed his first unique product. Like others in the clothing industry, Morgan had set out to solve a common problem in sewing woolen material: the sewing machine needle operated at such high speed that it often scorched the fabric. Morgan, who was working with a chemical solution to reduce this friction, noticed that the solution he was developing caused hairs on a pony-fur cloth to straighten instead. Intrigued, he tried it on a neighbor's dog, and when it straightened the hair on the dog's coat, Morgan finally tried the new solution on his own hair. The success of the solution led Morgan to form G. A. Morgan Refining Company, the first producers of hair refining cream.

Morgan experimented with new products throughout his life, inventing hat and belt fasteners and a friction drive clutch. His most significant invention, however, came in 1912, when he developed the "safety hood," a precursor to the modern-day gas mask. Morgan's patent application referred to it as a "Breathing Device." Granted a patent in 1914, the device, which consisted of a hood with an inlet for fresh air and an outlet for exhaled air, drew a number of awards, including the First Grand Prize from the Second International Exposition of Safety and Sanitation in New York City.

Although Morgan tested and demonstrated the use of the safety hood over the next few years, its most critical test occurred on July 24, 1916, during a tunnel explosion at the Cleveland Waterworks. The whole area was filled with noxious fumes and smoke, trapping workers in a tunnel under Lake Erie. Aided by his Breathing Device, Morgan went into the tunnel and carried workers out on his back, saving a number of men from an underground death.

Achievement Rewarded

For this act of heroism, Morgan received the Carnegie Medal and a Medal of Bravery from the city, and the International Association of Fire Engineers made Morgan an honorary member. Not much later, Morgan established a company to manufacture and sell the Breathing Device in response to numerous orders from fire and police departments and mining industries. Fire fighters came to rely upon the gas mask in rescue attempts, and the invention helped save thousands from chlorine gas and other noxious fumes during World War I.

Next, Morgan created the three-way traffic signal, a device that saves lives to this day. The idea to build the warning and regulatory signal system came to him after he witnessed a carriage accident at a four-way street crossing. Once again, Morgan made sure to acquire a patent for his product, this time in Britain as well as the United States and Canada. Eventually, Morgan sold the rights to his invention to the General Electric Company for $40,000.

Service to Society

In addition to inventing new and unique products Morgan was actively involved in promoting the welfare of African Americans. In 1920, therefore, he began publishing the Cleveland Call, a newspaper devoted to publishing local and national black news. Additionally, Morgan served as an officer of the Cleveland Association of Colored Men, remaining an active member after it merged with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He developed glaucoma in 1943, losing most of his sight, and died in 1963.

in class you have been discussing whether it is important for all students to have music lessons at school. here are two comments from your classmates: ("there are more important things to do at school") ("I think I improve in my other subjects as a result") write an article for your teacher, giving your views. your article should be between 150-200 words long

Answers

Although I cannot provide the full article here for you, I can give you the topics to develop into one:

First, you can use the two comments from classmates to write your article. Choose which comment you agree with and then write down the reasons why you agree with it.The other comment will serve as a counterclaim, that is, as something people could say to oppose your opinion. Remember to address it in the article as well, providing another opinion or fact against it.For example, you can choose to agree with the opinion that music lessons will help improve your performance in other subjects. A reason to agree with that is the fact that learning music improves concentration and focus, which helps us learn better and faster. Then, mention that some people might see music lessons as a waste of time, thinking they have more important things to do. Respond by explaining that, by learning to focus, people will spend less time studying, since they will learn faster. Therefore, music lessons are not a waste of time, but a gain of time.

How to write an article:When you choose the topic or, in this case, your opinion about the topic, write down every idea you have about it - why you agree, why you disagree, what the reasons are, all of it.Begin to structure your article. Keep in mind it should have an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. Write a draft or even several drafts, reread them and change whatever parts are unclear or confusing.Your introduction should present your thesis - in this case, your opinion or claim. The body should defend that opinion, present the counterclaim, and address that counterclaim.Conclude by restating your opinion in fewer words. Remember that you should not add new information in your conclusion. Its purpose is just to wrap up the article.
