Cords on appliances should be kept straight and free of knots, kinks, and tangles to prevent: a. volts b. loads c. breaks d. currents.

Answers

The answer is c. Breaks

Cords on appliances should be kept straight and free of knots, kinks, and tangles to prevent breaks.

Bending, twisting, or knotting electrical cords can cause the wires inside the cord to become damaged or broken, which can lead to a short circuit or electrical shock hazard. A damaged or broken cord can also cause the appliance to malfunction or stop working altogether. Therefore, it is important to keep cords straight and avoid creating any sharp bends or kinks that could stress the cord and cause it to break.

Volts and currents are electrical properties related to the flow of electricity, while loads refer to the amount of electrical power being used by an appliance. While knots, kinks, and tangles in cords can indirectly affect volts, currents, and loads, the primary concern is the physical integrity of the cord and preventing breaks.

Consider a simple ideal Rankine cycle and an ideal regenerative Rankine cycle with one open feedwater heater. The two cycles are very much alike, except the feedwater in the regenerative cycle is heated by extracting some steam just before it enters the turbine. Hence, the simple ideal Rankine cycle is more efficient than the ideal regenerative Rankine cycle. How would you compare the efficiencies of of these two cycles?

Answers

Answer:

They both have the same efficiency.

Explanation:

The simple ideal Rankine cycle and an ideal regenerative Rankine cycle with one open feedwater heater would both have the same efficiency because the extraction steam would just create a mini cycle that recirculates. The energy given to the feedwater heater is proportional to the added heat in the boiler to the feedwater in the simple cycle to raise its temperature to the same boiler inlet condition.

Therefore in comparison, the efficiency is the same for both.

A sustainable energy source is an energy source that can be used without depleting it, and is renewable over an extended period of time.

In addition, sustainable energy sources should also be environmentally friendly. Below are three features that would make an energy source sustainable:Renewability: For an energy source to be sustainable, it must be renewable. Renewable energy is an energy source that can be used over and over again without being depleted. Sunlight, wind, water, and biomass are all examples of renewable energy sources. On the other hand, fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas are non-renewable energy sources. They are finite resources that will eventually run out. Therefore, sustainable energy sources must be renewable.Durability: Sustainable energy sources must be durable. Durable sources of energy can produce energy for long periods without needing repair or replacement. In contrast, non-renewable sources of energy such as fossil fuels are finite resources that can be depleted, and once depleted, they cannot be replenished again. Hence, sustainable energy sources must be durable and provide energy over a long period of time.Environmentally friendly: Sustainable energy sources should be environmentally friendly. This means they should not produce any harmful emissions or pollutants that may harm the environment. Unlike non-renewable sources of energy, renewable energy sources have no adverse impact on the environment. The use of renewable energy sources reduces carbon emissions and decreases the dependence on fossil fuels, which are harmful to the environment.In summary, a sustainable energy source must be renewable, durable, and environmentally friendly. Answer:

Updated question

The big ben clock tower in London has clocks on all four sides. If each clock has a minute hand that is 11.5 feet in length, how far does the tip of each hand travel in 52 minutes?

The distance traveled by the tip of the minute hand of the clock would be 62.59 ft

Explanation:

Let us assume the shape of the clock is circular.

the minute hand is equal to the radius = 11.5 ft

Diameter = radius x 2

Diameter = 11.5 x 2 = 23 ft

The distance traveled by the tip of the minute hand can be calculated thus;

the fraction of the circumference traveled by the minute hand would be;

52/60 = 0.8667

Circumference of the clock would be;

C = pi x d

where C is the circumference

pi is a constant

d is the diameter

C = 3.14 x 23

C = 72.22 ft

Therefore the fraction of the circumference covered by the minute hand would be;

72.22 ft x 0.8667 = 62.59 ft

Therefore the distance traveled by the tip of the minute hand of the clock would be 62.59 ft

The use of salt on snowy and icy roads could have a negative effect on Montgomery County's Water Supply. The salt used on the roads for melting ice can cause a number of issues for water supplies and ecosystems, and Montgomery County is no exception.

When salt is used to melt snow and ice on the road, it can dissolve into the water and run off into streams, rivers, and lakes. The salt lowers the freezing point of water and melts ice, but it also alters the chemical makeup of the water, making it more saline. It can also damage aquatic plants, animals, and fish that rely on freshwater systems.

Therefore, it is important to take steps to minimize the use of salt or to use alternatives, such as sand or beet juice, which are less harmful to the environment and water supplies.

The minimum required water cement ratio for a workable concrete is 0.40.

The water cement ratio is an important parameter in concrete mix design as it determines the workability and strength of the concrete. A lower water cement ratio generally results in higher strength but may lead to less workable concrete.

A higher water cement ratio may increase workability but can compromise the strength of the concrete. The range of water cement ratios varies depending on factors such as the type of cement, aggregate characteristics, and desired concrete properties. A water cement ratio of 0.40 is commonly used to achieve a balance between workability and strength.

It provides sufficient water for the hydration process while maintaining good workability for proper mixing, placing, and finishing of the concrete. Therefore, option B, 0.40, is the minimum required water cement ratio for a workable concrete mix.

Forman1911THE MATCHThere never was a time when the world was without fire, but there was a time when men did not know how to kindle fire; and after they learned how to kindle one, it was a long, long time before they learned how to kindle one easily. In these days we can kindle a fire without any trouble, because we can easily get a match; but we must remember that the match is one of the most wonderful things in the world, and that it took men thousands of years to learn how to make one. Let us learn the history of this familiar little object, the match.Fire was first given to man by nature itself. When a forest is set on fire by cinders from a neighboring volcano, or when a tree is set ablaze by a thunderbolt, we may say that nature strikes a match. In the early history of the world, nature had to kindle all the fires, for man by his own effort was unable to produce a spark. The first method, then, of getting fire for use was to light sticks of wood at a flame kindled by natureby a volcano, perhaps, or by a stroke of lightning. These firebrands were carried to the home and used in kindling the fires there. The fire secured in this way was carefully guarded and was kept burning as long as possible. But the flame, however faithfully watched, would sometimes be extinguished. A sudden gust of wind or a sudden shower would put it out. Then a new firebrand would have to be secured, and this often meant a long journey and a deal of trouble.In 1827, John Walker, a druggist in a small English town, tipped a splint with sulphur, chlorate of potash, and sulphid of antimony, and rubbed it on sandpaper, and it burst into flame. The druggist had discovered the first friction-chemical match, the kind we use to-day. It is called friction-chemical because it is made by mixing certain chemicals together and rubbing them. Although Walker's match did not require the bottle of acid, nevertheless it was not a good one. It could be lighted only by hard rubbing, and it sputtered and threw fire in all directions. In a few years, however, phosphorus was substituted on the tip for antimony, and the change worked wonders.
