job shops tend to be __________ while continuous processes tend to be __________.

Answers

Option C is Correct. Continuous processes tend to be large-scale and rigid, whereas job shops are often small-scale and flexible.

In a job shop system, machines are organized according to their technological capabilities or procedures. Lots are used to arrange the production. Machines that perform the same function are assembled into departments (lots).

Because the materials—dry bulk or fluids—that are being processed are continuously in motion, experiencing chemical reactions, or undergoing mechanical or thermal treatment, continuous production is also known as a continuous process or a continuous flow process.

Batch production is compared with continuous processing. A work shop method is very flexible and uses all-purpose resources. A flow shop method makes use of specialized tools and proceeds along a predetermined path.

The Mystery of Loch Ness
By Kayden Mitchell

Of all the mysteries in the world, none has been as popular as that of the Loch Ness Monster. Perhaps the biggest mystery is whether it is convincing evidence or a simple desire to believe that keeps the myth alive.

Loch Ness is a lake in Scotland. The loch, or lake, is known for sightings of a mysterious monster. Most who see this monster, known as Nessie, describe something with a long neck and several humps above the water. Sometimes the "monster" is moving in these sightings, and sometimes it is still. Many have suggested that Nessie might be a plesiosaur (plea-see-a-soar), an aquatic dinosaur that was trapped in the loch after the last ice age.

The plesiosaur theory presents several problems. First, the plesiosaur is an air breather. Such a creature would need to surface often and, therefore, be seen more frequently. Second, it's unlikely that the same creature has lived in the loch since the last ice age. Today's creature would have to be the offspring of an original plesiosaur trapped long ago. This would suggest multiple creatures in the loch (needed to produce offspring). Again, sightings would be more frequent if this were the case.

So from a purely logical stand point, the existence of such a large and ancient creature is unlikely. But assume for a minute that it is possible. What would a plesiosaur need to live in an enclosed lake?

Tropical waters: Scientists believe plesiosaurs were warm-blooded. Like crocodiles and alligators, plesiosaurs would need to live in warm waters. The loch is very cold with temperatures averaging about 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4.4 Celsius).
Food: Like other warm-blooded creatures, plesiosaurs would need a large quantity of food. If there is a group of Nessies, then even more food would be needed. Because the loch is full of silt (underwater dust) not much light gets into the deepest areas. So the food chain, which would depend on plankton, is very weak at its base. As a result, there is probably not enough food to support such a large creature.
However, the plesiosaur theory is not the only one. Many other ideas attempt to explain the sightings and "photographs." But two separate sonar surveys of the loch have not found any evidence of a creature larger than a salmon. The last survey1, completed in 2007 by the British Broadcasting Company (BBC), involved 600 different sonar beams. Using satellite navigation systems, the team made sure every inch of the loch was searched. The team found nothing.

With cell phones and digital cameras, one would think that sightings of Nessie would increase. This has not happened. The BBC team believes the legend of Nessie has endured because people see what they want to see. To prove this, the team used a fence post, raising it before groups of tourists. Afterwards several of the tourists asked to draw pictures of what they had seen drew pictures of a monster's head.

1 "BBC 'proves' Nessie does not exist." 27 July, 2003.

Use the poem "The Road Not Taken" to answer the following questions.

In the poem, the author’s tone is...

Select one:
a. Confused
b. Thoughtful
c. Excited
d. Angry

Answers

In the poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, the author's tone can be described as option b. thoughtful.

Throughout the poem, Frost reflects on the choices he has made and the paths he has taken in life, contemplating the consequences and the potential significance of those choices. The tone of thoughtfulness is evident from the very beginning of the poem when the speaker encounters a fork in the road. Frost's use of the word "sigh" suggests a sense of contemplation and reflection.

As he considers the two paths before him, he acknowledges that both are appealing and that he cannot explore both simultaneously. This creates a sense of thoughtful deliberation, as he weighs the options and imagines the possible outcomes of each path. The tone of thoughtfulness deepens as the speaker reflects on his choice for the future.

He anticipates that he will look back on this moment with a sense of nostalgia, acknowledging that taking one path over the other will make all the difference in his life. Frost's use of imagery and metaphorical language contributes to the thoughtful tone, as he describes the path less traveled as "grassy and wanted wear," suggesting that it represents a less conventional and perhaps more challenging choice. Therefore, the correct answer is option b.

This is due to the fact that children have a greater ability to learn and adapt to new languages. As they grow older, their ability to learn new sounds and pronunciation decreases. This is why many non-native speakers who learn English later in life may have an accent that is difficult to overcome. However, with practice and exposure to the language, non-native speakers can improve their pronunciation and fluency. Answers

The author creates surprise in the story through various techniques, including a flashback to Bella's grandmother receiving her first love letter, the portrayal of Mateo as shy and bookish, the introduction of the character Graciela, who is expected to have a significant role but doesn't, and leading the reader to believe that Mateo is the writer of the love letters.

The author strategically employs several elements to craft surprises throughout the story. Firstly, the flashback to Bella's grandmother receiving her first love letter introduces a connection between past and present, creating intrigue and setting the stage for unexpected revelations. Secondly, the portrayal of Mateo as shy and bookish leads the reader to assume he may be the writer of the love letters, which builds anticipation and sets up a surprise twist when the true writer is revealed.

The introduction of the character Graciela, who initially appears to have a pivotal role in the plot but ultimately doesn't, adds an element of misdirection. This creates surprise by defying the reader's expectations and leading them to question the true direction of the story. Lastly, by manipulating the reader's assumptions and leading them to believe that Mateo is the writer of the love letters, the author sets up a surprise when the actual writer is revealed, challenging the reader's preconceived notions and adding an element of unexpectedness.

By employing these narrative techniques, the author effectively creates surprises throughout the story, keeping the reader engaged, intrigued, and ultimately surprised by the unfolding events and revelations.

However, it is not until the news of their son's death that the stakes are raised. The family's grief and despair are palpable, and the reader feels the weight of their loss.
