the reading a scientific view of risk has a different definition of risk than we have used in class. the definition used in this reading added what component to the definition?
The reading provides a scientific view of risk which adds the component of probability to the definition of risk.
This means that risk is now defined as the combination of the probability of an event occurring, and the consequences of the event occurring. This is different from the definition used in class, which was more focused on the consequences and not the probability of an event occurring.
This scientific view of risk can help to identify potential risks and help to inform decision-making by understanding the probability of an event occurring.
This risk assessment can then be used to inform risk management strategies by helping to determine which risks need to be addressed and how.
By considering the probability of an event occurring in addition to the consequences, this scientific view of risk can help to better understand risks and how to best address them.

Answer: I need to get my crayons from my desk at school.
Explanation:
The first option could work, but we would need a comma and the option does not include one. Just as I used a comma in the sentence before! When combining two sentences or two parts with a conjunction you usually will need a comma.
The second option looks good! It can help to read them out loud when deciding which makes the most sense.
The third option only adds a comma, it does not use a word to help the two parts flow. This is called a comma splice.
While this option works, it is not necessarily the best. It breaks the sentence into two parts, but it does not have smooth sentence fluency.

12 Why is a dependent clause also known as a subordinate clause? O A. because it is joined to a sentence by a colon OB. because it is joined to a sentence by a subordinate conjunction O c. because it is a sentence fragment O D. because it is a run-on sentence
Answer:
O B. because it is joined to a sentence by a subordinate conjunction.
Explanation:
An independent clause, on the other hand, can stand on its own as a complete sentence and needs no other clauses to be complete.
A dependent clause is a group of words or phrases that do not complete a thought and cannot stand on its own as a complete sentence. It needs an independent clause to be a complete sentence. Moreover, it also needs a subordinating conjunction to be joined to the main clause.
A dependent clause is also known as a subordinate clause because it is joined to a sentence by a subordinate conjunction. Thus, the correct answer is option B.

Do you think being successful influences your identity or do you think your identity influences your success
Answer:
I think being successful influences your identity.
Explanation:
Well a lot of times, some people might change a little upon being more successful. For some that could include a good change and for others, a bad change.
Answer:
I believe it could go both ways but I feel like your identity influences your success more.
Explanation:
Think of an influencer or celeb for example, people have to like you, for you to be successful. So if people don't like you, can't relate to you, or whatever else it is there is a less chance that you will be successful.
But when you do become successful, that life and style could change your identity for sure. So technically both are correct and they are both true, but for me I think your identity influences your success a lot!

compare and contrast gothic and transcendental literature
Answer:
Gothic literature and Transcendental literature were both very different types of literature, however, they did have some similarities. Gothic literature was focused more on the darker aspects of writing poems of society and nature. Transcendental literature, on the other hand, focused more on the individual and their view of the world. For example, it encouraged readers to figure out who they are as a person without allowing society to decide how you view or present yourself. Gothic literature had more of a focus on looking to make changes in society rather than the individual. Gothic literature was also much darker in comparison with the light spiritual mood of Transcendental literature.
Explanation:
Please put your answer in your own words :)
Gothic and Transcendental literature were vastly different from one another, they did share some characteristics. The darker sides of composing poems about society and environment were increasingly the emphasis of gothic literature.
What is transcendental literature? The mid-19th century literary and philosophical movement known as transcendentalism was idealistic. Visionaries, thinkers, scholars, and authors would routinely meet to discuss spiritual concepts starting in New England in 1836.
Contrarily, transcendental literature placed more of an emphasis on the individual and their perspective of the universe. For instance, it urged readers to discover their personal identities rather than letting society dictate how they should perceive or show themselves.
In contrast to the individual, society was given more attention in gothic literature. In addition, Gothic literature was more darker than Transcendental literature, which had a more upbeat spiritual tone.
Thus, Gothic and Transcendental literature were vastly different from one another.

One of the most celebrated plays of the 1980s, David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross examines the world of the salesman, the same world explored thirty years before by no less a luminary than the great Arthur Miller. In fact, Mamet’s play bears many similarities to Miller’s revered Death of a Salesman. In Mamet’s play, four salesmen are told they will lose their jobs if they do not make near-impossible sales in a 48-hour period; in Miller’s play, Willy Loman, a traveling salesman, has been dismissed from his job and struggles to adjust his perceptions to the world around him. It’s not impossible to see Glengarry Glen Ross as a sort-of prequel to Miller’s play, as if the character who does lose his job at the end of the play is Willy Loman the day before the action in Death of a Salesman occurs. In any case, both plays show a fascination with the salesman archetype.
The salesman figure has long fascinated artistic types. For one, he allows the artist to explore and criticize contemporary culture. After all, even while Americans tend to distrust salesmen as dishonest shysters, hucksters, or charlatans (all of which are literary ways of saying that salesmen are frauds and liars); we also celebrate their accomplishments. The salesman (and it always is a sales man in these works) does whatever he can do to make a dime, but as Americans we too are encouraged to strive for that extra dollar. Additionally, as a dramatic personality, one could do a lot worse than a character who lies to himself and about himself and lives, thus, in an altered reality. Is that not also what a writer does? He or she creates a fiction that is presented as fact. Admittedly, this might be a bit strained of an idea, but we can all agree that the liar is an interesting character. Think of The Wizard of Oz if the wizard himself weren’t a fraud. Or think of The Confidence-Man without the titular conman. Or think of Othello without Iago’s ruse, MacBeth without the suspect witches, or Hamlet without a ghost he’s not sure he can trust. The stories fall apart completely.
Glengarry Glen Ross too would lack any drama with four honest salesmen. The audience sees their reality—a dingy office in Chicago, a Chinese restaurant across the street—but also sees the lies that Ricky and Shelden spin—that they have just flown in from Florida first class with a unique opportunity for relatively poor potential customers—in the two days in question. At the end of the first act, someone breaks into the office to steal a better list of clients so as to make a quick buck. The company is appalled by the theft, but, of course, the audience realizes the theft of the company is no different than the theft the salesmen attempt on their customers, the very thefts the company formerly lauded. In Glengarry Glen Ross, what’s good for the goose is evidently not good for the gander.
And yet, the play would suffer if it did not also humanize these unscrupulous men. The drama takes turns over its two acts to make the audience appreciate their struggles, even while questioning their methods. Like Willy Loman, these people become the ultimate tragic victims of our culture, those men trying hard to achieve an impossible, albeit American, dream. Ultimately, then, the villain in the play is us: the consumers who make these men go to such heights to con us into buying things we don’t need, just as we buy dozens of useless objects on a daily basis. What Mamet taps into ultimately is our own discomfort in the culture in which we live and have created.
The author’s main point about what makes Glengarry Glen Ross work as a play is that...
A
David Mamet makes unlikable characters seem human and real
B
Arthur Miller explores the themes of American culture and is able to criticize it
C
David Mamet was the first playwright to explore the world of salesmen
D
Arthur Miller is able to turn the unlikable salesmen into tragic figures
Answer:
The article discusses the similarities between David Mamet's play, Glengarry Glen Ross, and Arthur Miller's play, Death of a Salesman. Both plays explore the world of the salesman archetype and the cultural fascination with this figure. The article suggests that the salesman archetype allows artists to criticize contemporary culture while also celebrating the accomplishments of salesmen.
The success of Glengarry Glen Ross lies in its humanization of unsavory characters and depiction of the pressures of American consumer culture. The flawed characters are relatable and the audience is encouraged to reflect on their role in creating such a culture.
Explanation:The author's main point about what makes David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross impactful as a play is the way Mamet humanizes the unsavory characters, illustrating them as complex and tragically flawed individuals influenced by the American culture's emphasis on success and profit. Much like Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, Glengarry Glen Ross portrays salesmen who resort to deception to achieve the American dream, and are ultimately made to be tragic figures in the process. However, Mamet's play goes a step further by prompting audience reflection on their own roles as consumers in a culture that encourages such behavior.

The star burns more brightly than Mizar, and is much closer to Earth.
The star burns more dimly than Mizar, and is farther away from Earth.
The statement "The star burns more dimly than Mizar, and is farther away from Earth" could be true.
1. The scientist identifies one of the stars as Mizar, and it appears equally large and bright as the second star in the night sky.
2. The first statement, "The star burns more dimly than Mizar, but is closer to Earth," cannot be true because it contradicts the initial assumption that both stars appear equally bright.
3. The second statement, "The star burns more brightly than Mizar, but is farther away from Earth," could be true. If the second star burns more brightly, it would compensate for its greater distance and still appear equally bright as Mizar in the night sky.
4. The third statement, "The star burns more brightly than Mizar, and is much closer to Earth," is not possible based on the assumption that both stars appear equally bright.
5. The fourth statement, "The star burns more dimly than Mizar, and is farther away from Earth," could be true. If the second star burns more dimly, its greater distance would make it appear equally bright as Mizar in the night sky.
Therefore, the correct statement about the second star is that it burns more dimly than Mizar and is farther away from Earth.

Before flying, Micah displays a high level of caution and attention to detail by researching the types of planes the airline uses, scanning the plane for defects, and observing the pilot and crew. However, since he has no experience as a pilot or airplane mechanic, Micah's sense of control over the safety of the flight may be misguided.
While it's commendable that Micah is taking an interest in the safety of his flight, his actions may not necessarily result in a better understanding of the plane's safety or increase his ability to assess the plane's safety accurately. While scanning the plane for defects might be helpful in identifying obvious signs of damage or issues, Micah likely lacks the sense of technical knowledge to identify more subtle problems that could affect the plane's safety. National landmarks are a part of our nations history. Landmarks commonly represent something that happened in the past, including wars and big events. Using public money to maintain these landmarks, is something that would be beneficial. If we do use public money to maintain them, then more generations will be able to experience them.
When landmarks deteriorate, current and future generations are no longer able to see the landmarks. An example of these landmarks deteriorating, is the Statue of Liberty. In 1875 when the statue of liberty was built it had the color of copper. However, due to the copper reacting to the sun, the color has changed to the green that it is today. Because of its color becoming green, current and future generations are unable to see the original copper color.
National Landmarks also give students an opportunity to learn more about our nation's history. Visiting National landmarks also gives students an educational experience outside of their classrooms. This can give students a better understanding of our past as a nation. It also gives teachers new teaching opportunities. I would have many things to write about, because I'm from a navy family, and have been to a lot of different places.
In conclusion, we should maintain, and preserve our national landmarks. They are part of our nation's history. They also give students a better learning experience and teachers better teaching opportunities. These are all reasons why we should use public money to maintain landmarks.
