Choose a film you have seen that has been adapted from a written work. Analyze the differences between the two versions, and argue which is better and why.You may decide for yourself what "better" means, but make sure that the standards you use to compare the two versions are clear and consistent. Support your argument with evidence from both versions. (10 points)

Answers

You can compare the novel and the movie adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen, claiming that the book is better as it is more consistent.

Novel vs. movie

We cannot write the whole essay for you here, but we can give you ideas on what to write about. If you were to write about "Pride and Prejudice," you could discuss the following topics:

In the movie, the characters behave in ways that would be considered outrageous back then. For instance, at the end, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy meet outside in the early morning, while she is in her nightgown. That was unacceptable by societal standards. The book also reveals more of Elizabeth's thoughts. For that reason, readers feel as if they know her better than when watching the movie. The novel also provides brief details concerning Elizabeth's marital life, which the movie does not offer. In the movie, several lines are changed. For instance, while entertaining Mr. Collins, some lines uttered by Elizabeth in the movie are actually said by her father in the novel.

In conclusion, you can claim that the novel is better in your opinion for the reasons mentioned above.

Describe Gatsby's true origins. Did the reality match your expectations?

Answers

In F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby, the main character, Jay Gatsby, is revealed to have come from humble beginnings in the American Midwest. Gatsby was born James Gatz in North Dakota, and his family was poor.

When Gatsby was a teenager, he reinvented himself, taking on a new name, a new identity, and a new vision for his life. He met wealthy Dan Cody, who took him under his wing and taught him about the world of money and power. From that point on, Gatsby was determined to become rich and successful so that he could win back the love of his life, Daisy Buchanan.

Gatsby's true origins are a far cry from the glamorous, wealthy persona that he presents to the world. His life story is a testament to the idea of the American Dream, the belief that anyone can succeed if they work hard enough. However, his story is also a cautionary tale about the dangers of chasing after wealth and status at the expense of personal relationships and integrity.

The reality of Gatsby's origins did not match the expectations of those who knew him. His extravagant parties and opulent lifestyle made it easy for people to assume that he had always been rich and powerful. However, as the novel unfolds and Gatsby's past is revealed, it becomes clear that his wealth and status were the result of a long, hard-fought battle to overcome his humble beginnings.
