Secretary problem: given n uniform variables find optimal strategy to maximize expected return on the first chosen variable
Using the maximum likelihood estimator is the ideal approach for this issue. This entails figuring out the likelihood that each variable will be picked, then picking the one with the highest likelihood.
By ensuring that the most probable variable is selected initially, this approach maximizes the expected return on the initial variable. Using the best stopping rule is the ideal tactic for the secretary problem. The best variable among the top 37% of variables should be chosen, according to this guideline, and the evaluation should end there. The initial variable you choose should be used if you are unable to locate one that is superior. As a result of maximizing the expected return on the first selected variable, this technique is the best one to adopt.
