In what ways did Charles Lyell impact Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution? What type of relationship did Darwin have with Charles Lyell? How did Darwin learn about Charles Lyell's ideas?
Answer:
They both believed that continuous and gradual change is law of nature
Explanation:
Charles Lyell's “Principles of Geology “ encouraged Charles Darwin to think of evolution of living organisms as a slow process just like the slow geological processes taking place since millions of years. As per Charles, the slow and little contribution of continuous geological events shaped the present geological attributes of the earth. Likewise Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution also earmarked accumulated effects of small gradual changes over immense spans of time. They both believed that continuous and gradual change is law of nature.

The Asian longhorned beetle is native to China and Korea. The beetle is thought to have entered the United States by means of untreated wooden packing crates. The beetle larvae make tunnels and feed on wood of a wide variety of trees like maple, elm, willow, and birch. Infestation by a large number of these beetles can result in the death of the trees.
Which is the best measure that the United States government can take to limit the introduction of more beetles?
Responses:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Prevent growing trees in and around shipyards.
Introduce predators of these beetles from China or Korea.
Require an inspection and treatment of all wooden packing materials before being imported.
Cut all trees that are infected or are at risk of being infested by the beetles.
My first answer would be to inspect all wooden packaging materials before being shipped, since that seems to be the way they are being transported from China and Korea to the United States.
My second answer would be to release predatory species concerning this native beetle species to evacuate or kill of the beetle community in the United States. Although, that could create more problems with more non-native species (of the United States), reasoning the first answer to be the best.
The other answers would most likely be worse, since the extermination of possibly infected trees would just kill the trees, which is something we are trying to stop from happening. If we prevent those trees from growing in/around shipyards, the species could still travel through the packaging if it is brought further onto land or use other modes of transportation. Also, the trees were already growing there in the first place, so then 'preventing' them from growing would just lead back to killing the trees that could be infested.
Answer:
Explanation:
Prevent growing trees in and around shipyards.
In this picture, all the organisms have arrows pointing to bacteria, a decomposer.
Why is this so?
All living things decompose when they die.
All living things consume decomposers.
All living things come from decomposers.
All living things decompose when they die.
Bodies of living organisms begin to decompose shortly after death. Animals, such as worms, also help decompose the organic materials. Organisms that do this are known as decomposers. Although no two organisms decompose in the same way, they all undergo the same sequential stages of decomposition.
What is decompose in biology?Decomposition is the process by which bacteria and fungi break dead organisms into their simple compounds . Plants can absorb and use these compounds again, completing the cycle. Decomposing bacteria and fungi are described as saprophytic because of the way they break down dead organic matter.
What do bacteria decompose?Scientists call the organisms that decompose organic matter decomposers, saprobes or saprotrophs. Fungi and bacteria are not restricted to decomposing leaves and other plant materials. They will decompose any dead organic matter, whether it is a cardboard box, paint, glue, pair of jeans, a leather jacket or jet fuel.
which source of renewable enegry do you think is most likely to be used in your community within the next 20 years? explain your answer
In recent years, there has been a significant shift towards renewable energy sources in many countries, as they are becoming more cost-effective and environmentally friendly compared to traditional fossil fuels. The most common renewable energy sources are solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, and biomass.
Solar energy is one of the most rapidly growing renewable energy sources worldwide. It has already become affordable for households and businesses to install solar panels, which are increasingly being used to generate electricity. In many communities, solar farms are also being established to supply power to the grid. With the advancement in technology, the efficiency of solar panels is improving, and the cost of installation is decreasing, making it a more viable option for more households and businesses.
Wind energy is another renewable source that is increasingly being utilized. Wind turbines are being installed in many areas, especially in regions with consistent winds. As with solar energy, advances in technology are leading to improved turbine efficiency and lower installation costs.
Hydroelectric energy is a well-established source of renewable energy that has been in use for many years. Many countries have already established hydroelectric power plants, and more are being constructed. While the construction and operation of these plants can have some environmental impacts, hydroelectricity is a clean and reliable source of energy.
Geothermal energy is another renewable source that has great potential. It involves extracting heat from the earth's core to generate electricity. While currently geothermal energy is not widely used, there is increasing interest in it as a source of clean and renewable energy.
Biomass energy involves using organic materials such as wood chips, crop waste, or even animal manure to generate electricity. While this source of energy is not as clean as some of the others, it can be a good option for communities that have access to a lot of biomass waste.
In conclusion, the most likely source of renewable energy to be used in a community will depend on a variety of factors, including the availability of resources, local government policies, and technological advancements. However, solar and wind energy are likely to become more popular due to their increasing affordability and efficiency, as well as their potential for use at a household or small business level.
Earthquakes can be recorded on a seismograph. This device produces a piece of paper with a long flat line, along with scribbles drawn with a needle that represent times when there has been an earthquake. How is energy transmitted to the seismograph?
A) Seismic waves carry energy through Earth and shake Earth below the seismograph.
B) Sound waves carry energy through Earth and shake Earth below the seismograph.
C) Seismic waves carry energy through the air and shake the needle of the seismograph.
D) Sound waves carry energy through the air and shake the needle of the seismograph.
Answer:
C
Explanation:
Earthquakes carry SEISMIC waves; not sound.
Seismic waves carry energy through Earth and shake Earth below the seismograph. So, the correct option is A.
What are Seismic waves?A seismic event, such as an earthquake, volcanic eruption, or other seismic activity, can cause waves of energy to move through the Earth's crust and interior. They are produced primarily by the sudden release of energy from the Earth's lithosphere or mantle and are a type of mechanical wave, meaning they require a medium to travel through. Body waves and surface waves are the two main categories for seismic waves.
Body waves are waves that move through the interior of the Earth and are further broken down into P- and S-waves. Primary waves, often known as P-waves, are longitudinal waves that may go through both solid and liquid materials and move more quickly than S-waves. Transverse waves known as S-waves, or secondary waves, can only move in one direction.
So, the correct option is A.
How does passive transport come into play in oxygen's journey through our body?
In the alveoli of the lungs, oxygen frequently diffuses from the air into the erythrocytes and blood plasma.
What is passive transport?Diffusion is a form of passive transport where molecules migrate from a high concentration to a low concentration, if you didn't know. Therefore, it follows that the oxygen content of the air must be higher than that of the blood.
Passive membrane transport methods are the most direct. Passive transport is a phenomenon that happens naturally and doesn't require the cell to use energy to move.
Diffusion is the process by which chemicals travel passively from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration.
Therefore, Passive transport is a term that refers to both osmosis and diffusion. They don't need any power.
